Competitions are a great way to push personal boundaries in terms of bear crafting. They also draw attention to our craft and help to elevate its status, so all in all, I think they're pretty important in the bear world and well worth considering.

For anyone interested in entering a teddy bear competition, this is a thread to let you know which competitions are out there and how to go about entering them.

If anyone would like to post details of a bear competition they've heard about, please do!

The international TITA AWARDS take place in Japan annually. I'm hoping someone out there knows what the entry requirements are, because all I can find is a webpage in Japanese and unfortunately I wouldn't know how to begin translation! I do know English speaking artists who have taken part in this competition and I'm pretty sure bears need to be posted out to Japan for judging. If anyone can enlighten us further, please do!

TITA AWARDS

I have just been advised that successfully nominated entries into the TITA's will be required to be sent to Japan and could be away for up to six months.

There is an entry fee and credit card payments are accepted.

The bbaa applications have to be in by 31st July(tomorrow) and photographs have to be submitted by September 1st.
It is £15 for the first entry and slightly cheaper after that. The first round of judging is done by photographs either by e mail or preferably by post.
If you reach the finals and you live in the uk you are required to take your bear down to Hove for judging at the Hove show which is Sunday 23rd November this year.
I have entered the competition this year and it is the first competition that I have ever entered.I made a bear to enter with and then changed my mind as I like my latest bear more although at the moment he has just a head Rolling Eyes

UPDATE January 2009:

The Australian Bear Creations Awards ( ABC Awards - Woodlands Publishing - Australian Bear Creations magazine) have just announced that their criteria for entry is now by photographic submission only (so if nominated, your bear won't have to travel to Oz!) and their entry deadline has been extended until February 1st 2009.

You can send a max of five photographs but the minimum requirement is one full length (ie standing) body shot taken from the front, one full length body shot taken of the back, one close up of the face. The other photos may show your bear seated and close ups of any detailing.

I don't know if there is a web page as the only place I have seen the awards advertised is in tbci or the hugglets Teddy bear guide. You can contact Wendy by e mail at wendyhobday@freenet.co.uk or telephone 01895 834348 for an entry form.
There is an advert in tbci july issue but the phone number is wrong-as I found out!

Thanks for the extra info!

I think it's unlikely I'll take part this year Ruth as the deadline date clashes with when I'll be working towards the two main US competitions. Also it would mean keeping my entry to one side on the offchance he was nominated and that means no income from that bear for quite some time ... unfortunately I have to keep my business head on which means that for me, the photographic submission competitions work far better.

Competitions Empty TITA Awards

Post by Lynne Madeley Thu Sep 18, 2008 5:13 pm

I found this link: http://www.teddybear.co.jp/gallery/8thtita.html
It is in Japanese, but on the right there is the option to read the info in English.
Unfortunately this requires entries by 30th June 2007.
I also found this : http://www.teddybear.co.jp/gallery/tita_08.html
which is for the 2008 awards. I think we can surmise that entries have to be in for June next year, but like Paula I can't read Japanese.

Now we need someone more adept at all this confusing stuff to take it from here... Shocked

It has many interesting categories for bears:

Miniatures dressed and undressed
Old fashioned bears

The zoo (other animals)
Purely mechanics
